Wily Wasp

This is an oil painting that I painted on a linen canvas.  This painting just received a Best of Show at my art club's Fall show that was held in the West Valley Art Museum's Gallery in the Peoria City Hall in downtown Peoria, AZ.

"Wily Wasp"....16" x 20" oil on linen canvas

I began this painting by creating a very detailed, grisaille underpainting, upon which I then applied many thin glazes of color.

  1. I just came over from Wet Canvas. I have been reading many of your contributions to that site, including answering my "oil ground" questions. Smile. This is a lovely piece. The depth and detail given to the painting is wonderful. Regards, ScientistChic

  2. I love this!! I enjoy macro photography when I'm not painting and recently took some pictures of red wasps chewing the wood from my back deck.

I figured letting them have a little of my deck was a small price to pay to keep them occupied as I slooooowly got my lense 3 inches away.

This painting, like all of yours is just delightful!
